We are ChurchDesk: Meet Maja

Maja from ChurchDesk

At ChurchDesk we are proud to have such a hardworking team. We want you to see their brilliance too, so we will be giving you an introduction to some our employees and an insight into what they do over following series of articles.

What is your role at ChurchDesk?

I’m an Account Executive for our Nordic customers. More specifically I am in contact with our existing ChurchDesk customers to find out if the have the ChurchDesk subscription that best suits their needs. If they don’t we work together to find a better solution. Hence, I spend a lot of my time trying to figure out what exact features the customer in question needs!

What is your background?

I studied at Copenhagen Business School (CBS) where I graduated in Cultures and Communication, before getting a Master's degree in Entrepreneurship and Innovation. My Masters thesis was about women starting up companies in India. Since then I have worked in customer relations and so I’m used to being in contact with a lot of different people every day.

Why ChurchDesk?

As my choice of Master’s degree may hint at, I am very interested in the startup environment. I knew Christian (the CEO at ChurchDesk) from doing volunteer work at CBS, so I had been watching him and the company from the side. I think the company has a very interesting history, especially because we work in such a niche market, so when the vacancy was published I applied right away. I do not have a sales background but I’m used to working in human relations and felt it was a good fit for me to work with existing customers.

How would you describe ChurchDesk to a friend?

Most people question why we do software for the church but once I’ve explained it to them it suddenly makes so much sense. It is a really fun company to be a part of, both because it is a company which breaks the market but also because there is a lot of freedom and positive energy. Larger companies often have old ground rules and ways of doing things so it is nice being part of a smaller company with the ‘full speed ahead’ mentality.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

It’s hard to tell. Maybe I’ll still be a part of ChurchDesk, but as part of growth in new markets. It’s exciting that there are so many possibilities out there. Further ahead I could see myself starting something up myself, but time will tell...

What motivates you in your job?

As long as I am surrounded by fun and happy people both in my private life but also at work it is all worth it. That is what makes the difference.

What is your best ChurchDesk memory?

I really like calling the customers and feeling how they appreciate the call. I can hear how they are doing and learn how the collaboration can become even better. I experienced this just a couple of days after starting to work at ChurchDesk.

Can you think of one person who has inspired you?

The poor women living in the slum in India have really inspired me. When I met them I was surprised how much you can achieve if you just have the energy and willpower. These women come from nothing but work hard constantly to change their conditions. It makes you appreciate your own background and how lucky you are.

Is there one thing about you that would surprise your colleagues?

I can be a super nerd sometimes. If I find something interesting I love to sit down and really dig into it - especially historical and technical things. On the other hand, I am really terrible at playing FIFA.
